A fuchsia prickly pear pad with black spines.
About the work
I lovingly refer to this painting as my “hipster cactus picture”. Ironically, it was painted for an older lady and not someone in their late twenties. This was a piece that I came to love more and more over time, as I wasn’t too sure about it right away.
I first did a light sketch using a reference photo I took of some prickly pears in a neighbor’s yard. Then I painted it using watercolours. To achieve the splatter framing affect, I put down low tack artist tape and allowed water and paint to seep under it.
The original hangs in a private collection.
