A cute little pallid bat having a midnight snack!

About the work

This artwork was my very first attempt as using wood as a canvas for watercolour paint. I had always known of other artists using oils and acrylics on wood, however, it wasn’t until shortly before I worked on this piece that I discovered wood can make an extremely viable surface when prepped correctly. I brainstormed a bunch of different ideas for what the subject matter would and ultimately decided to paint a mega-cute bat eating an equally cute centipede. I chose a pallid bat since not only are they mega-cute, but they are also native to the Sonoran desert. Working with wood was different experience than using paper, but over all I mega-enjoyed the process.

The original artwork currently hangs in a private collection.
