Horned owl wood burning on basswood.
About the work
During a summer vacation visit to Wisconsin with some dear friends of mine, I discovered the amazing art form of pyrography! It was at a local art shop and gallery that I came across a rolling pin with wood burned drawings of chick-a-dee birds and flowers. Once home, I decided to try my own hand at it and voila! I give you this horned owl portrait.
When trying to decided what to draw, I first looked at simple designs, however, they all seemed to easy. That’s when I considered at bird feathers may be great for that. They would be intricate enough to provide a challenge, while still being flexible enough to hide any mistakes I was bound to make.
In the end the owl turned out to be a great choice and I can now add pyrography to my list of art mediums and techniques!
