Art nouveau style portrait of the Roman goddess Diana.
About the work
Art nouveau is one of my all time favorite art styles. I love its mix of simplistic yet detailed appearance. Like wise, the works by Alphonse Mucha are some of the most inspirational for me. He was truly a master in and of the movement. This experimental, mixed media illustration takes its ques from said movement with gradient colouring, bold lines, and block outlining. This piece went through several transformations before becoming the image you see now. In the early stages I did not have a clear idea of what the subject would be. I used a variety of mediums – ink, pencil, watercolour (both pencil and paint form), gel pen, and gouache – on simple grey drawing paper. Admittedly, the paper was not well suited for the various wet mediums I employed, and thus created several challenged throughout the drawing and painting process.
