Happy New Year!

Just a quick blog post to wish everyone a wonderful new year! Today has been amazing in every way, and the perfect way to start off the year refreshed and renewed!

Very refreshing was the snow covered yard I woke up to! It doesn’t snow often here in the southwest, so it was a real treat to make a mini snowman outside and warm up to a roaring fire inside! It was the first time my puppers got to experience snow too! One liked it way less than the other, lol.

Even though it has only been one day, I already feel as if my batteries have been recharged. I made it a point to not work on anything today – just relax. However, I’m itching to get back to my drawing desk and easel!

There were several times last year in which I struggled to feel motivated. Not because I didn’t want to create, rather, I lacked the energy.

Last night I managed to sketch out a boar bust right before the clock stuck 12. That alone was something to be proud of, as I wasn’t feeling too motivated in the hours prior. I had worked a 10.5 hour shift in the day and had been up since 4:30am. By the time evening rolled around, I was very much done for the day.

Making art is very mentally taxing for me. I don’t just slap paint around or scribble out things. For better or worse, I take it seriously. And rarely do I have the mental strength to draw or paint at the end of a work day.

One of my resolutions this year is to stop letting my day job control my life and stunt my art career. So, with some stubborn moxie I doodled, sketched, and drew the last few hours of 2018. I chose to draw boars for the new year and ended up with a decent sketch. It’s not art, but rather a testament to how I have to keep pushing forward even when I feel like I can’t!

There’s still some time left in this day. I’ve spent nearly all of it eating and playing video games! I think I may spend the remainder of it drawing…and maybe more eating, ’cause it’s the holiday!

Cheers to 2019!
